Gold Reef supports 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s Christmas Wish List with R420,000 donation
12 December 2008
Gold Reef Resorts, on behalf of Gold Reef City and Silverstar casinos, is pleased to have supported the Christmas Wish List on 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s Rude Awakening morning show by hosting the live broadcast of the final wish today from Silverstar Casino on the West Rand of Gauteng.
The Christmas Wish List helps to turn into reality a number of wishes made on behalf of those in need. The Rude Awakening team puts out on air a call for people to send in a wish to benefit someone else, in the spirit of the festive season.
The final wish this Christmas was for Thandile Madikane who is three years old. She was diagnosed at six weeks with biliary artesia, which is a progressive liver problem and usually terminal. Thandile’s only hope for a full recovery is a liver transplant and medication costing about R500,000.
Silverstar Casino is situated in the The Mogale City municipality. The municipality had already raised R80,000 towards the medication costs and the balance of R420,000 is being provided by Gold Reef Resorts.
Jarrod Friedman, Gold Reef Resorts Financial Director, said during the live broadcast this morning:
“Thandile’s case for a liver transplant was so compelling for Gold Reef Resort’s social investment committee. We are very pleased to be able to provide the funds to allow the transplant to go ahead. Mogale City Municipality should be congratulated for establishing the trust for her in the first place. We wish Thandile a successful operation and a full and speedy recovery.”
The live broadcast from Silverstar Casino was attended by 200 invited guests. This marks the first birthday of the casino which was opened on 11th December 2007.
Gold Reef Resorts is committed to social and community upliftment. Each of the group’s operations has a formal Corporate Social Investment policy in place. Social contributions totaled R13.8m in 2007.
